Root Canal

It’s true – no one wants a root canal. However, in order to properly treat a badly decayed or infected tooth, you may require one. Fortunately, at Shodhan Dentistry in Desert Hot Springs, our general dentistry professionals strive to provide you with a comfortable, safe experience and a successful outcome. This restorative dental procedure is essentially performed to save a tooth, as it targets the infection that develops at the nerve. Not undergoing a root canal, if it is needed, will only worsen the problem of tooth damage. If the degree of damage or infection is severe, the root may die; and it is this decaying tissue that can cause a person to experience excruciating throbbing.

In the past, the only option available to people who had severe tooth decay or infection was extraction (removing the tooth). Now, with dental technique advancements, a damaged tooth can be saved and restored. Typically, during a root canal, the infection is suctioned out, the canal is filled, and the tooth is then capped with a crown. Root canal therapy eliminates all of the pain a patient previously experienced, and will allow him or her to chew on the repaired tooth without a problem.

In order to properly control a dental problem, it must be treated early on. Therefore, in addition to maintaining regular trips to the dentist as well as cleaning and flossing at home, please take notice of the signs below. These may indicate that you may require a root canal:

  • Tooth discoloration
  • Intense toothache pain (especially with the application of pressure, such as chewing)
  • Prolonged sensitivity/discomfort in response to hot or cold temperatures even after the hot or cold has been removed
  • Swelling and tenderness of the surrounding gums
  • An insistent or recurring pimple on the gums

If you think you may need to undergo this restorative dental procedure, please contact Shodhan Dentistry as soon as possible. Dr. Harin Shodhan and Dr. Keyur Shodhan have the skills and qualifications to help improve the condition of your oral health.
